Pick the Right Nails/Spikes
In the world of aerial mapping and surveying, the accuracy of ground control points is paramount. Recognizing this, DronePoints has been meticulously designed to ensure the highest levels of precision and reliability. A critical component of this design is the use of a large ground spike, with a 3/4" head for anchoring the DronePoints targets.

The 3/4" head size of the spike plays a crucial role in the DronePoints system. It ensures that the DronePoints targets are securely anchored to the ground, minimizing the potential for any movement that could compromise the accuracy of the mapping process. The larger head size provides a broad, stable base for the targets, which is essential in maintaining their position against environmental factors like wind, rain, and physical contact.
This design choice directly impacts the vertical accuracy of the geospatial data collected. Proper nesting of the DronePoints targets, facilitated by the 3/4" head spikes, means that each target sits flush and firm against the ground surface.
This focus on precision, stability, and reliability is what sets DronePoints apart. As we continue to innovate and refine our products, our goal remains the same: to support the geospatial community in capturing the most accurate and useful data possible.
Many surveyors already use 6" 60D nails in their workflows. If you prefer this option, using the nails with a washer will ensure they work effectively with DronePoints targets. However, you won't be able to use the adhesive-backed center markers with this setup.
